Rep. presidential nominee John Kasich campaigning West Salem
Ohio governor began running ads in Wisconsin
WEST SALEM, Wis. — Heading into the Wisconsin presidential primary April 5, the area will see its first presidential nominee in person.
Republican John Kasich announced he’ll be visiting the La Crosse area.
At 11 a.m. March 28, Kasich, who launched two “inspirational” television ads this week about his record and personal biography, will stop at River Steel in West Salem. He will speak at noon.
The event is free. Click here to RSVP.
Kasich’s ads in Wisconsin focus on his experience balancing the federal budget, his faith and a drunk-driving accident that killed his parents.
The ad cost his campaign $500,000, while a supportive outside group is running another Kasich ad, also costing $500,000, according to advertising tracker Kantar Media’s CMAG.
Kasich’s campaign sees Wisconsin as potentially favorable territory before the contest moves east.
The outside group supporting Kasich is running an ad arguing he’s the only Republican who can beat Hillary Clinton in the general election.
Kasich, however, is so far behind in the hunt for delegates that he can’t win the nomination in the primary season. His only hope is in a contested convention in the summer.
Ted Cruz’s campaign also has a bit over $500,000 in ads planned. Donald Trump typically has advertised only in the week before an election and hasn’t made plans in Wisconsin yet.
