Commission nominates Memorial Pool as historical designation
Parks dept. argued against unanimous vote
Thursday the Historical Preservation Commission unanimously agreed to accept the nomination of La Crosse’s Memorial Pool as a historical designation.
The commission will decide at a meeting next month whether the pool deserves to be labeled a local landmark.
Jay Odegaard with the city park’s department, argued against a designation, saying it could have unintended consequences.
“We can’t do the improvements to the pool that need to be done, because now we’re hindered by the title it’s going to have,” Odegaard said.
The committee said that its only job was to look at whether it meets the city’s description of a historic designation.
