Taking offers on former Mobil Oil site in La Crosse

could kick start development
Another step ahead for the Riverside North project in La Crosse.
The Redevelopment Authority has decided to take offers from developers to put homes, businesses and other attractions on the former Mobil Oil property off the causeway.
City planner Jason Gilman says a few million dollars could become available, but City Hall might need a lot more money than it’s going to get.
“We’ve got roads that need repair,” Gilman said. “ We’re only repairing about a third every year of what we need to repair.”
Gilman says bringing in some developers could kick start the improvements on 65 acres of riverfront land that have sat empty for years.
The request for ideas could attract money to build businesses and homes between Copeland Avenue and the Black River.
About $400,000 could be spent in the next year to buy land along Copeland that would serve as an entrance to the ‘Riverside North’ project.
