Gundersen putting up hotel beginning in June

A new hotel being put up by Gundersen Health System is imminent.

“We expect to have city approval coming up in a month or so, some site prep work immediately thereafter,” Gundersen senior vice president business services Mark Platt said.

He expects construction to begin by June with the hotel being completed about a year later.

And, when it’s done, the 65-room hotel that will included 16 extended stay suites should come in handy to those traveling from afar.

“When a loved one has someone in the hospital, they want to be nearby,” Platt said. “And when you have to travel for an hour or more to come see us for a procedure that will limit your mobility afterwards, to be able to stay on campus is a huge benefit to our patients and their families.”

The hotel will go up in the Powell-Poage-Hamiliton neighborhood in La Crosse, just north of the Gundersen Founders Building by South Avenue.

I also act as the voice of local sports, doing play by play of high school and college football and basketball. When not working I enjoy golfing.
