Bernie in Onalaska today, while mayor asks for votes
Chilsen running write-in campaign to be re-elected
A presidential campaign rally tonight in Onalaska could briefly take the spotlight away from a weird year for elections in that city.
Bernie Sanders will look for votes at the OmniCenter at 7 p.m. (doors open at 4), while incumbent Onalaska Mayor Joe Chilsen is looking for people who will write in his name on the ballot Tuesday.
Chilsen also is keeping a lookout for campaign signs that keep vanishing.
“I’ve had a number of signs stolen,” Chilsen said with a laugh, “but, we’ll keep putting them out there.”
Mayor Chilsen and two incumbents on the Onalaska School Board all chose to run as write-in campaigns this spring, after errors found in their nominating papers kept all three off the ballot.
