La Crosse police adding extra enforcement in April

Officers to educate those on pedestrian/bicycle traffic

You probably won’t get a ticket, but La Crosse police will be talking to you during some extra enforcement during April.

Police are staging a few days this month of what they call high-visibility enforcement of traffic laws and how they pertain to bikers and walkers. 

Typically, police pick a spot in the city where they generally have problems with people obeying rules like crossing the street, how to yield to someone in a crosswalk or how not to run a stop sign on a bicycle. 

Police may politely pull you over with the idea of some quick, curbside education. And maybe a ticket. 

The high-visibility enforcement starts April 7 on West Avenue. Cops will be in the area of Pine and Vine Streets, where student traffic from Western Technical College and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

The effort is grant funded through the Wisconsin Dept. of Transportation.
