Could save the city $40,000

The La Crosse area is transitioning to LED streetlights.

Xcel Energy will perform replace 5,000 lights in the region, saving the city thousands.

“The LED lights are going to last longer and they’re going to be less expensive,” Xcel’s Chris Ouellette said. “We know in the city of Eau Claire, which is pretty comparable to the city of La Crosse, with the number of street lights that Xcel energy owns in the city, they were predicting savings anywhere from $30-40,000 a year.”

Ouellette says the company will start next week in communities around La Crosse sometime in June.
“LED have a more efficient lighting pattern that really reduces the glare,” Ouellette said. “It focuses the light right on the area to be lit.”
