Food sustainability focus of conference at La Crosse Center this weeked
Study finds food is scarce for some in La Crosse
Food is the centerpiece of the La Crosse mayor’s neighborhood conference this weekend.
It’s the third such conference since Mayor Tim Kabat took office.
The event, held Saturday at the La Crosse Center, is meant to focus on the promoting and celebrating the growing, sourcing and cooking of local, sustainable and healthy food.
Some things highlighted during the conference will be foraging to eat and growing food in your yard — types of activities that could tackle the issues of food scarcity.
A recent survey found 12 percent of adults struggled to meet basic food needs. One study found that food isn’t always easy to come by for many in the city and this conference attempts to address some of those issues in sustainable ways.
Some getting honored at the conference tomorrow include the YMCA, which recently broke ground on a community food forest, meant to help those who struggle with food scarcity.
