Duluth mayor spoke of his town’s success,
and how La Crosse could mirror it

ONALASKA, Wis. — Promoting outdoor recreation was the topic at a conference Thursday with a couple mayors speaking.

The Outdoor Action Alliance met at Stoney Creek Inn to talk about how to better promote recreational opportunities in the Coulee Region.

La Crosse Mayor Tim Kabat says the area has a lot to offer.

“We see all the trails being built, all the dreams and visions for even more connections and more opportunities for people to get out in the rivers and on the bluffs, and then come downtown for a beer, it makes a lot of sense,” Kabat said.

The mayor added that partnerships with the county have enhanced the promotional efforts.

Duluth Mayor Don Ness talked of his towns promotional success of outdoor recreation, and how the La Crosse area could do the same.

Ness says when it comes to selling people to come to live in the area, they should focus on things that potential citizens can’t find elsewhere.

“For La Crosse and Duluth, it’s the uniqueness of our natural environments,” Ness said. “It’s the uniqueness of the ability to recreate in these areas, that you can’t find in downtown Milwaukee.”

Ness added that every advantage is crucial when competing for jobs and investment from companies.
