A life sentence in prison is what DeShawn Randall received today in La Crosse court.

Randall had his head down on the table when the judge came down with the order. The 19-year-old then hugged the dozen-or-so family members in attendance.

“I took a good life and ruined my own,” Randall said of his shooting 17-year-old Central High School student George Miller nine times on the southside of La Crosse. “He was an awesome person.”

Randall said he was friends with Miller and talked about his father being in prison, and living with different family members growing up. He said he was very sorry for what he did. It’s not who he is. And asked Miller’s family for forgiveness.

Randall, who pleaded guilty two months ago, does have some hope of getting out of prison during his lifetime, as the judge ordered he can seek early release in 25 years (August of 2040).
