Superdelegate Kind voting for Clinton, despite his district’s position for Bernie Sanders

Six of 10 superdelegates are
pledged to Clinton in Wisconsin

As of now, La Crosse congressman Ron Kind is still committed to Hillary Clinton.

Myron Buchholz, running for congress as a Democrat against Kind this year, says Kind should switch his superdelegate commitment to Bernie Sanders after the Vermont senator’s 13-point pummeling of Hillary Clinton throughout Kind’s third congressional district Tuesday.

“It’s called the House of Representatives and you are supposed to represent a constituency,” Buchholz said. “And when the constituency votes overwhelmingly in favor of a particular candidate, I think it behooves you to do what your constituents want.”

Kind is one of six Democratic superdelegates in the state pledged to support Hillary Clinton. 

Four were uncommitted up until Thursday, when Sanders picked up his first superdelegate in the state: Rep. David Bowen of Milwaukee – the only district in the state that voted for Clinton over Sanders, oddly enough. 

The other three superdelegates remain uncommitted.  

Despite Sanders 13-percentage point win over Clinton in the state this week, the two will gain a nearly even share of delegates to secure the Democratic nomination for president — partially because of the proportional way delegates area awarded, partially because of Clinton’s backing by superdelegates.  

“When it’s an overwhelming show of support for another candidate, that should have some bearing I would think on, your decision,” Buchholz said. “At some point when you have a vote, like we had, the message is clear. And I wouldn’t consider that a flip flop. I would consider that representing my district.”

Kind is traveling out of the country and could not be reached for comment on his superdelegate vote.
