Woman wielding hatchet in Walmart

The story around a disabled woman shot by police in a Walmart could become clearer today.

Black River Falls, Wis., native Melissa Abbott, who was 25 years old, apparently wouldn’t drop the hatchet that she had grabbed from a shelf in the sporting goods department.

The developmentally disabled woman was swinging the hatchet.

When confronted by the first officer on the scene, Abbott lunged at him.

That’s when the officer shot her twice.

It was only after the shooting, apparently, police learned she was a resident at the state-run Northern Wisconsin Center for the Developmentally Disabled.

An autopsy was conducted on Abbott on Sunday and the officer involved in the shooting has been placed on standard administrative leave.

The incident remains under investigation.

Wow how sad , it sounds like the story in Neillsville when a cop shot and killed a kid because he was holding a butter knife and the cop feared for his life… Pretty sure the cop could have just shot the kid in the leg or tazzed him .. What the hell do these cops learn in training just to kill and they wonder why so many people hate them !!!
