Spots open for free teen-driving clinic

Could be both learning experience and fun

There are still spots open this spring for Gundersen Health System’s one-day, car control clinic for teen drivers.  

The new drivers will learn advanced skills on the road and it might just be fun going through the driving course.

Gundersen trauma injury prevention coordinator Erica Kane says it’s clear from past clinics that they really have an impact on young drivers.

“What we keep finding is that drivers are changing their habits,” Kane said. “They’re taking what they learned at the car control clinic and really using it in the real world to prevent crashes.”

The one-day free clinics take place on April 30 and May 1. Sign up here.

“The program is meant for drivers who already have their license,” Kane explained, “that are comfortable driving on the road, but need the advanced skills to be able to handle the unanticipated hazards they might run into.”

While teenagers represent only 5 percent of licensed drivers, they account for over 12 percent of crashes.
