Downtown La Crosse security cameras officially dedicated

About three dozen cameras are operated by La Crosse P.D.

The cameras throughout downtown La Crosse have been in use few months.

This morning, a dedication ceremony took place at a business on Main Street to applaud those who either donated or worked on the project that added close to three dozen surveillance cameras. 

“This is a big relief, because the fundraising took a long time,” said Mike Keil with the La Crosse City Vision Foundation, which spearheaded the project. “But we did get it done and we’ve got a good system for the police dept.”

The La Crosse Police Dept. will operate the cameras, which were funded by several hundred thousand dollars in private donations.

“We did get quite a few major donors,” Keil said. “They saw a need in the community and they saw the benefit of it.

“There were people from all over the community, all over the county that contributed to this. 

Many say the cameras will both decrease crime downtown and help police solve the crimes that do occur.
