Program culmination of what was learned throughout year

It’s called the Festival of Nations, a program by students at North Woods International Elementary in La Crosse.

This was the 10th year of the program from the year-round class, where students learn about other countries and cultures.

“Every year, the students do a final culminating project of everything they’ve been learning,” Music instructor Mandi Wolfgram said. “So each grade level studies a continent, does a performance and, afterwards, they have displays.”

Fourth- and fifth- graders performed a concert Thursday, featuring music and dance from Europe and South America, and brought in styles and flavors from all over the world.

“We did a lot for the Spanish immersion classes,” Wolfgram said. “We learned about music from Nicaragua and Columbia. We had music from Russian, Ireland and England.”

Over the next few weeks, other grades will perform.

I also act as the voice of local sports, doing play by play of high school and college football and basketball. When not working I enjoy golfing.
