The local farmers’ market season begins today in La Crosse County.

At 10 a.m. today – and all Mondays through October – the first market to open this spring will be on the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse campus near Wittich Hall.

Jim Steinhoff from the county health dept. says at the peak of the season, there will be nine markets a week around the county, with one of the most popular based in downtown La Crosse.

“Cameron is popular,” he said. “In addition to the food, they have music and other entertainment.”

The Cameron Park market will begin May 6 and continue throughout fall on Fridays.

All of those markets will be going by the end of June, and seller permits are available at the health department office.
