The La Crosse area can get ready for a rematch of the 2011 recall election for state Senate.

Democrat Jennifer Shilling moved up from the Assembly to the Senate in that race, unseating Republican Dan Kapanke.

Monday, Kapanke officially announced his plan to challenge Shilling, while Wednesday night, Shilling had a local fund-raiser officially announcing her run for re-election.

Shilling said the Republican Senate’s record in the last five years has not been good.

“I don’t take anything for granted, and we’re going to crisscross the 32nd Senate district,” Shilling said. “But there are very diff policy positions that my opponent and I have taken and what we believe we need to do to move Wisconsin forward.”

Shilling added that she had been preparing for a Republican challenge in the fall, but didn’t know that Kapanke was planning a campaign until very recently.
