Volunteers set to clean up La Crosse Marsh on Earth Day

Group took out over a ton of trash last year

The annual clean up of the La Crosse River marsh is one of the Earth Day events volunteers will turn out for this weekend.  

Organizer and University of Wisconsin-La Crosse student Matt Donahue was also part of last year’s clean up.

“Everybody loved to see a full dumpster with over a ton of garbage, I think we ended up pulling out,” Donahue said. “Everybody just really enjoyed see that that was all their hard work. A true benefit came from it.”

Donahue, who expects well more than 100 to get in on the marsh clean up Saturday, said besides the Earth Day tie-in, the event is something that’s perfectly timed for the spring.

“After winter, it just always seems like there’s so much more of a buildup from the snow plow and people not being able to get out there when it’s cold,” he said.
