La Crosse’s $1.2 million ash borer cut down still two years from complete
Replanting will takes
place over next five years
It might seem that La Crosse city crews have cut down just about as many ash trees as there are to cut down. Not even close, as it turns out.
There are 2,700 trees remaining on boulevards, as the city tries to get ahead of the emerald ash borer infestation.
The $1.2 million, five-year plan to cut down the trees – half of those 2,700 come down this year, and the rest, the next – gets reviewed today by the city’s public works board.
After that, replanting. About 4,300 trees will be replanted over the next five years at a cost of about $130 each.
