Grant will help homeless in La Crosse County

A federal agency has given Couleecap in Westby over $300,000 to assist people in need of permanent housing.

Couleecap’s Kim Cable says the grant helps provide transitional housing support.

The types of people to use the housing, Cable says, are homeless individuals and families.

Those in transitional housing can stay in a facility for two years.

“We often find that people also move on from that program into other situations of stable housing,” Cable said.

Davis says her company helps more than 1,300 homeless people in La Crosse County every year.

“We have limited units available and the need always outweighs the resources that we have available for housing,” Cable said.
