Logan football field, new turf by August
Partially paid for by $200,000 grant from Packers
By the end of July, the Logan High School football team will be playing on synthetic turf.
The project, which has been partly funded by a $200,000 grant from the Green Bay Packers, has already begun.
The turf should be laid in three weeks and the track will be resurfaced by July, according to Joe Ledvina, the supervisor of buildings and grounds for the La Crosse School district.
“We have over 40 competitions on the Logan football field,” Ledvina said. “By the time fall rolls around … it gets overused. Quite frankly, by the time football season is over, you’re playing in mud.”
Ledvina added there will be a new drainage system around the surface, meaning that even in a downpour, it won’t be damaged.
One thing that won’t get worked out that were in the original renovation plans are a new press box and bleachers.
“We don’t have money to do those project,” Ledvina said. “But, certainly, if someone were to come forward, we would try to fit those in. That would be a Phase 2 and we will continue to seek donations to do that.”
