GOP still split on Trump

La Crosse Sen. Schilling says that’s dangerous

House Speaker Paul Ryan hasn’t gotten behind Donald Trump.

Not yet, even after meeting with him Thursday in Washington, D.C.

Some Wisconsin Democrats believe that shows a sharp division among Republicans about whether Trump would be a good choice for president.  

Dem. Assemblyman Cory Mason said that the businessman’s election victories are causing plenty of concern in the GOP.

“Republicans have to decide if they value their country more than they do this presidential race,” Mason said. “And, it’s a tough choice for them. No doubt.”

Some are starting to hop aboard Trump’s train, and La Crosse Sen. Jennifer Shilling says that mixed reaction to Trump should worry Wisconsin.

Shilling, the state Senate Dem. leader, says Trump keeps changing his economic policies, and keeps insulting his critics.

“Donald trump is dangerous, he’s divisive and he continues to be erratic,” she said. “And Donald Trump, he is unpredictable.”

Republican party chair Reince Priebus of Wisconsin believes his party hasn’t united behind Trump yet because the nomination was settled a lot sooner than party members expected.
