Junk piling up on La Crosse’s curbs, not all of it legal
City taking large items free, but not electronics
Mattresses, tables and chairs, sofas. Suddenly, they’re everywhere curbside in La Crosse.
Big-item pick up began this week with some initial confusion about placement of items.
It’s still the same stuff: recliners, tables and chairs, mattresses; that kind of thing.
But, this year, you just keep your mattresses separated from everything else, because they’re going to different places says La Crosse recycling coordinator, Brandon Shea.
“The mattresses and box springs are going to be recycled this year,” Shea said. “7 Rivers Recycling is doing that. So, we’re asking that those be kept separate and as dry as possible.”
Also, “we don’t want any appliances or electronics,” Shea said.
Large items will be picked up on your regular recycling day.
Shea says all of the large items picked up besides the mattresses will be taken to the county landfill.
The city will not pick up any electronics or appliances and you could be fined for having them curbside.
Big-item pickup began Monday and runs through June 10.
