Don’t expect circus at GOP convention today

DULUTH, Minn. — There might not be fireworks on the floor of the Minnesota state Rep. convention in Duluth today.  

Patrick Boone, the co-chair of Houston County Republicans, doesn’t expect much excitement with Donald Trump — less than popular among Minnesota Republicans — bound as the party’s nominee for president.

Trump seems to be an acquired taste for the party.

“We may not have absolute unity, but I think we’ve reached the acceptance stage of grief,” Boone said without a hint of laughter.

Minnesota was one of the few states not won by Trump during primary voting. Marco Rubio was the top state-caucus pick – the only state he won. Trump was a distant third.  

As for the convention, don’t expect a circus.

“It’s probably not going to be as exciting as it might have been, being what happened at the beginning of the month when Ted Cruz dropped out of the race,” Boone said. 

So, not an exciting convention and Minnesota Rep. who will apparently not be enthused, either.

“Probably not as enthused as we would have been, if we’d have gotten somebody else, other than Donald Trump,” Boone said.
