Home sales in La Crosse County catching up to rest of state

Median sales price of $163,000 passes state average

Finally, La Crosse County joins the rest of the state in growing home sales.

New numbers from the Wisconsin Realtors Association this week shows the home market throughout the state continue to surge. Sales are up. Prices are up. It’s a robust market, the group says and the best in Wisconsin April of 2005.

According to the group, the county had dragged behind last year’s sales numbers for the first quarter of the year. April, however, was huge, according to the group.

Sales of existing homes were up over 20 percent from the same month last year.

That frantic demand also pushed prices up for April in La Crosse, to a median sales price of just under $163,000, which is more than the state average.

The Realtors group says a healthy employment rate, low interest rates and comparatively low prices continue to attract buyers.

A lingering problem, though, is the number of homes ready to sell around the state – a number that continues to shrink at a very high rate.
