Detroit appears next destination to be added

If you’re making summer travel plans that include flying, your options for traveling through the La Crosse Airport are a bit limited now, but they could improve.

A number of years ago we received a grant to assist us in perusing a Denver or Dallas service. So we are heavily hammering at those two destinations,” La Crosse airport manager Clint Torp said, adding it could be looking at leisure destinations like Orlando, Phoenix or Vegas.

You can get to Chicago or Minneapolis from La Crosse. Not Milwaukee. Not anymore.

“Yeah, when we had the Milwaukee service, it was a good service. We filled the planes,” Torp said. “Unfortunately, there’s just no airlines that fly that at this point. You never know what future has to bring, but the industry needs to change. A few upstarts need to come to make that happen.”

“Those shorter point-to-point, smaller airport destinations are not in the foreseeable future.”

Torp added that Detroit is the next likely destination for regular airline service. The airport board just approved an updated incentive program, which would offer airlines some financial breaks to bring service to La Crosse.
