First comm. theatre to get rights for show in U.S.

The cast agreed, so it’s adding a show.

The La Crosse Community Theatre’s production of Billy Elliot is adding a show at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Weber Center, as tickets have been selling quickly for the hit musical.

The first community theatre is the first in America to get the rights to perform Billy Elliot. The show won the Tony Award for best Broadway musical in 2009.

Director Greg Parmeter said rehearsal was planned for Wednesday night anyway, and the cast agreed to do it as an extra show. Parmeter says the La Crosse production proves that a community theatre can do a play that demands a lot from young actors.

With Wednesday’s addition, there are just four more tries to see the production. Get tickets here.
