Group wants $300,000 loan from city for apartments

Plan is to build 68 apartments
in old Rubber Mills factory

A loan from the city of La Crosse could help add some more apartments to the old La Crosse Rubber Mills building.

The Fenigor Group is looking for a $300,000 loan to help with renovation for more apartments in the old factory.

There are already 38 higher-end places in Rubber Mills called The Lofts, which Justin Hass says took awhile, because of the level of renovation needed in the old factory.

“We know that renovation is just a lot harder than building new, because we don’t know what we’re going to get ourselves into,” Haas said. “(It was) not that easy, but it’s fun now because we’re making it look pretty nice.”

Preliminary plans from the Fenigor group call for 68 more studio apartments in the Rubber Mills. The city council votes next month on a proposal.
