Who will be President Trump’s VP?
La Crosse County Rep. Party chair weighs in
It’s all over but the shouting for the Republican party now.
Donald Trump has clinched the presidential nomination, compiling enough delegates to get him that first-ballot win in Cleveland at the national party convention this summer.
But, there is that one little piece of leftover business: Picking a running mate. And that could be big.
“That’s going to be the next phase here,” La Crosse County Republican Party char Bill Feehan said. “Once we have the convention. Once we know who the VP pick is. That’s when the excitement is going to start to build.
“I do think that one of the things that donald trump needs to do, he needs to secure support amongst the Republican base. And getting a solid conservative on the ticket would probably go a long way toward doing that.”
At the state party convention held recently, former house speaker Newt Gingrich was the top pick in straw poll as a vice presidential possibility for Trump.
“The No. 2 pick was my guy, John Kasich,” Feehan said. “Of course, Newt’s been a big advocate for Trump, so that seems kind of logical. You get someone with experience working with Congress to help push through Trump’s agenda.”
Earlier this month, Gingrich said the odds were “1,000-to-1,” that he would be Trump’s pick for vice president. One betting website has the odds closer to a 100-to-1.
