Deal looks to be done for development on Barron Island

Been so long since site was used, some still skeptical

There are some high hopes for a development project on the site of the old Holiday Inn on Barron Island in La Crosse.

And with good reason, says La Crosse attorney Phil Addis, who represents developer Water Place One.

“It’s been over 15 years since there’s been anything on that site – probably 20 years since there’s been anything that’s generated any taxes,” Addis said, adding the plan is to start building this fall.

“The full city council votes on the development next week.

The first phase plans are for 26 condos.

“We don’t really have an exact price-point right now,” Addis said, “but yes, these probably will be higher-end developments.”

Because the site has gone undeveloped for so many years, there might be skepticism of some kind of development actually occurring on the site.

Addis, however, insists it not only will happen but, “Given the fact that this is on the water, and actually a good location on the water – you have a park right next to it – I think it’s going to be a very attractive development.”

Value of the development could be worth up to $11 million.
