La Crosse’s Shilling in for a battle for re-election

Primaries in 24 Assembly, 4 Senate districts
MADISON, Wis. — Two prominent Democratic state senators will face primary challenges.
The deadline for submitting nomination signatures to the state Government Accountability Board was Wednesday. GAB records indicate Jared Landry of La Farge submitted 500 signatures in western Wisconsin’s 32nd Senate District, enough to set up a primary with Senate Minority Leader Jennifer Shilling.
In Milwaukee’s 4th Senate District, state Rep. Mandela Barnes filed 754 signatures, enough to force a primary with Sen. Lena Taylor, a key Democratic member of the Legislature’s budget-writing committee. GAB records indicated Taylor filed her nomination papers Wednesday but didn’t include a total.
As of Wednesday evening, GAB records showed primaries in 24 Assembly districts and four Senate districts.
The primary elections are set for Aug. 9.
