Condo development on Barron Island likely approved this week
Developers say project could be worth $11 million
There’s a lot of of anticipation for a long-awaited development project on the old Holiday Inn site on La Crosse’s Barron Island.
This week, the La Crosse city council will likely vote to approve Water Place One’s plans for 26 condos in a first-phase development for the space just across the blue bridges, downtown.
With improvements, the whole project could be worth an estimated $11 million.
Already scheduled for the day after that vote Thursday is a review of site and floor plans for the development by the city’s design review committee.
Current drawings show three bedroom, three bath condos, grouped in two to four units with more than 2,500 square feet each.
One real estate agent said they could wind up in the $400,000 price range.
“It’s been over 15 years since there’s been anything on that site – probably 20 years since there’s been anything that’s generated any taxes,” La Crosse attorney Phil Addis said last week.
Addis represents Water Place One and added the plan is to start building this fall.
