Fees to increase when downtown ramps start charging July 11
La Crosse loses $10,000 a month without charging
Charging for parking in La Crosse’s downtown ramps could begin July 11 and the fee could increase.
Parking utility coordinator Jim Flottmeyer will recommend to the city parking board charges during daytime hours (6 a.m.-6 p.m.) increase to $1 an hour – a $.25 increase in the rates that began two years ago when the parking gates were first installed.
The city would still allow drivers to park free for three hours before the hourly rate kicks in, as is the case now.
The gates were removed in late February because of malfunctions and vandalism. During that time, the city has tried to improve ways of charging for parking.
Revenue from the ramps with the ticket gates was around $10,000 a month.
