Boundary talks with La Crosse, Shelby making headway

City, town finding common ground

Positive feelings heading out of boundary agreement talks today between the city of La Crosse and the town of Shelby. 

The two sides met for the first time since the city blocked an application for a new, high-end development just outside city boundaries and in the town of Shelby.

Cornett, also a city council member feels like the two sides will be able to find common ground.

“It’s really been a good, collaborative group that we’ve sat down with,” Cornett said. “It hasn’t been easy, I’ll tell you what. And, there has been some issues that we will have to push down the road for future conversations.

“But I think what we have here is going to be a good 10-20 year development agreement.”

Shared revenue is part of the talks, but that’s not all.

“There’s many different parts to it,” Ryan Cornett, on the city’s boundary agreement task force, said. “Part of it is the plat agreement. Part of it is shared services, possible extension of services for the future, and ‘Who gets what, when?’ type of stuff.”
