La Crosse robbery suspect pleads not guilty
Police found cash in a backpack,
have suspect on video making getaway
He pleaded not guilty today for a robbery of a La Crosse Altra Federal Credit Union, so Rodney Simmons will be scheduled for trial.
Evidence talked about in court showed security video of Simmons driving the getaway car from the credit union located inside Festival Foods on Copeland Ave.
“We found almost $1,000 in U.S. currency in a backpack that had identifying info of Rodney’s in it,” La Crosse investigator Phillip Martin said in court. “We also found $380 of counterfeit money.”
All found at his home.
Simmons allegedly forced another man, Shane Sherburn, to commit the armed robbery in order to pay for a drug deal.
Sherburn says he was forced to do it.
“Rodney had threatened him and his family, that if he didn’t do the robbery, then something bad was going to happen to him,” Martin told the court. “Shane stated that the threats were made when Rodney was in possession of a firearm.”
