Paul Ryan: “Win elections and get the
majority, then you can set the agenda,” on guns

WASHINGTON — Speaker Paul Ryan is sending a message to Democrats who want the House to vote on their proposals for curbing guns don’t count on it.

The Wisconsin Republican said Tuesday that Democrats’ plans for restricting firearms would violate the Constitution’s rights to bear arms and to give citizens legal processes to protect themselves. He suggested their measures won’t even get a vote when the House debates GOP gun provisions this week.

Asked if the House would vote on the Democratic proposals, Ryan said, “Win elections and get the majority, then you can set the agenda.”

He said GOP leaders would not reward Democrats for their tactics a reference to their lengthy House-floor sit-in two weeks ago.
