Wisconsin farmers/schools already eligible

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture is offering farmers with older tractors reimbursement money for purchasing rollover equipment.

The ROPS rebate program offers a 70-percent rebate on purchase, shipping, and installation of a rollbar and seat belt. Wisconsin is already part of the program.

“We’re trying to encourage people who have older style tractors, to install what are called rollover protection structures,” Michael Cruse with the University of Minesota-Extension Fillmore/Houston said. “Most of the time they will save someone’s life if their tractor rolls over and they’re properly installed and (the driver) is wearing a seat belt.”

Cruse says farmers must wear a seat belt for the equipment to work, something he knows might be a challenge for those who’ve never done so before on a tractor.
