Along with city’s new drinking ban, there’s also a parking ban in La Crosse
Measures will be modified in coming days
Sometimes good intentions can still lead to occasionally bizarre results.
The La Crosse city council apparently had pretty good intentions, recently, in adopting a couple of provisions.
One was meant to restrict drinking in city parks near playgrounds. It was passed last month by the council and, because of some language errors, actually outlaws drinking or even possessing booze anywhere within 1,000 feet of a park, playground or swimming area.
With about four dozen parks around the city, that puts drinking off-limits in entire neighborhoods.
A new parking rule restricts any vehicle longer than 18 feet from parking on city streets for more than two hours.
That means several models of regular, full-size pickups are currently illegal to park overnight on city streets.
Both measures are expected to be modified in the coming days.
