Frac-sand industry says frac-sand mining is perfectly safe, through DNR report
Recent report uses data from just one
company that runs multiple sites in Wisconsin
Hard to trust a report from frac-sand mining from the Wisconsin DNR when it’s the frac-sand industry supplying the data for the report.
The information used by the DNR actually also came from just one company that operates multiple frac-sand sites in Wisconsin.
And, of course, the DNR has concluded that there are no ill health effects that come from frac-sand mining operations in the state.
“It’s just a perfect example of flaud data that’s been supplied by the industry and is now under a lot of criticism and scrutiny,” Kerry Schumann, who heads the Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters, said.
“There’s all these ways in which the DNR has to rely on the industry, and the industry has really figured out how to get its fingers into every part of the process.”
The analysis reviewed the industry’s potential impacts on natural resources, public health and quality among other qualities.
There are 92 active industrial sand facilities in Wisconsin, most located in the west-central part of the state.
The DNR is accepting public comment until Aug. 22. It will also host a public meeting on July 26 at 4 p.m. at the Chippewa Valley Technical College.
