Still OK to feed pigeons in downtown La Crosse
New rules proposed by city council member put on hold
It won’t be illegal to feed the pigeons of downtown La Crosse, after all.
Tuesday night, the city council put on hold Bob Seaquist’s proposal to make it illegal to feed or give home to pigeons downtown.
Seaquist, however, insists, pigeons are an ongoing overall negative for the city.
“They carry some 60 communicable diseases,” Seaquist said at the council meeting. “Their poop has properties in it that does destroy structure.”
Seaquist contends his pigeon rules were good ones, but agrees the contraceptive feeding that the Downtown Mainstreet group is doing is certainly having an effect on the city’s pigeon population.
His rules and Downtown Mainstreet’s feedings could not have co-existed.
Seaquist believes that practice, along with some education along and enforcement of currrent city rules, should make a new set of pigeon restrictions unnecessary.
