Flooding damage to be assessed

Some roads remain closed

 

Emergency management teams in a handful of western Wisconsin counties will continue to evaluate damage from flooding yesterday while dealing with potentially ongoing flooding today. 

Trempealeau, Buffalo, Price and Eau Claire counties all saw significant problems after heavy rain caused significant flooding. 

Some areas recorded up to eight inches of rain.

Several roads were washed out and closed.  Some remain closed today. Although highway 93 in Trempealeau county opened up last night. 

Law enforcement is urging drivers to excercise caution on the road today.

At one point yesterday, the Buffalo county sheriff’s office was recommending no travel at all. 

The flooding led to evacuations in Independence, including the Gundersen clinic there.   

At one point, during the heaviest flooding, silage bin was seen floating in the middle of highway 121 near Indenpendence. Propane tanks were seen bobbing down a swollen creek near Cream.
