Cost $2,700 to get in, $15,000 for a picture

Still no time on when Donald Trump will speak to private donors Tuesday, but his motorcade arrived at the The Charmant Hotel in downtown La Crosse on Monday night.

It became obvious that’s where he was staying early Monday, as police were putting up no parking signs and barricades along the road, while federal trucks, along with police and fire vehicles, were going in and out of that area.

The Trump meeting will likely take place in the morning or early afternoon as he is scheduled to speak with Sean Hannity at 6 p.m. at the Pabst Theatre in Milwaukee, before heading to West Bend, Wis., at 7:30 p.m.

The La Crosse appearance won’t be for the public. Those who donated $2,700 will get to hear Trump. Those who donate 15,000 will get a photo opportunity with him. Special co-chairs for the event cost couples a $100,000 donation.

As far as what happens to downtown La Crosse while Trump is here, not even the police knew heading in.

“What I’m told is we know nothing,” La Crosse police’s Brooke Potaska said around 3 p.m. “In the past, secret service has kept it to themselves, until the last moment.

“As far as road closures and stuff like that, they give us that info at the last minute it seems, just so we can quick close those roads so we can get them in and out.”

Kwik Trip chain owners Don and LaVonne Zietlow are hosting the event. Logistics Health founder Don Weber, who also owns the Charmant, is another host.

Trump spoke at the La Crosse Center on April 4 in front of around 1,700 people.

In the April 5 primary, Trump won La Crosse County with 41.4 percent of the vote to Ted Cruz’s 37.2. In the state, Cruz won Wisconsin with 48.2 percent of the vote. Trump had 35.1.
