New pool, new fire station on La Crosse’s capital projects list
Budget plan likely limited at less than $8 million
Both a pool and a new fire station are proposed in a list of capital projects for the city of La Crosse in the new year.
The vast majority of the $60 million projects for 2017 won’t make it to the final list of those that get funded.
City budget planners will once again likely limit new borrowing to less than $8 million. Those two projects together – basically, the cost of buying land and building a new fire house – would exceed that self-imposed borrowing limit.
The replacement of the currently-closed Memorial Pool is budgeted at $2.5 million. A rehab of the pool is budgeted at $1 million.
An engineer hired by the city says the replacement cost is actually more than $4 million. A public hearing on all of the projects will be next Wed. in city hall.
