School board finalize requests at meeting Monday

Voters in the West Salem School District might be voting on another referendum this November.

On the school board’s agenda Monday night is to finalize requests, asking for $20 million for a renovation of the 35-year-old middle school building, along with other items. Also being requested is $5 million to upgrade athletic fields and the fieldhouse concession building.

In June, the board approved to move fifth graders to the middle school to help deal with overcrowding issues.

Similar referendums have failed twice – one asking to build a new middle school for $32 million.

A survey was submitted to the public last fall asking for their opinions.
