Library having slew of meetings over next few weeks
Among topics is county-city merger
If it’s August, the La Crosse Public Library must be talking with the public about future library needs.
In recent years, the city library has taken comments from the public in late summer about possible budget cuts and possible service reductions and closings.
This year, a hot topic is likely to be La Crosse mayor Tim Kabat’s proposal to merge the city and county library systems.
Kabat’s plan and library spending are likely to be discussed Tuesday during a city budget hearing at city hall.
Also, the first of three library listening sessions happens this Saturday at the Main St. library with the other two meetings planned for successive Wednesdays at the South and North branches.
The city library staff also has a five-year plan ready for public inspection. The plan includes ideas for increasing membership.
