Flooding causes evacuations, closes roads in the area
Areas of Iowa have been evacuated Heavy rain and flooding have led to evacuations in northern Iowa today.
Freeport is being evacuated while several other communities also are trying to deal with unexpected flooding after heavy rains fell in the area overnight.
Freeport and Spillville are the areas hardest hit by the flooding.
The Winneshiek sheriff’s office says Bluffton, Decorah, Fort Atkinson and many other areas along rivers and streams are also feeling the impact of the flooding and also warns that many roads in the county have been closed and washed out due to the flooding.
Some parts of southern Minnesota and southwestern Wisconsin also have reported flooding. Some school districts are also closed for the day in northern Iowa.
Flooding is expected throughout the day and the National Weather Service has declared a Flash Flood Emergency for all of northeast Iowa.
