Elderly couple in cabin swept up by floods
Trees uprooted in flash floods at Lansing resort
LANSING, Iowa — Nate Kondora has had a rough week. So did an elderly couple staying in one of the cabins at his Red Barn Resort.
Tuesday night, early Wednesday that couple’s cabin was dislodged and swept up into some trees because of heavy rains and flash flooding. The weather also uprooted trees at the Lansing resort.
“Mother nature, she just kind of, slaps you in the face sometimes,” Kondora said. “Makes you realize how small you are.”
Lansing firemen were called out to help rescue the couple.
“Basically tied a rope to a little Jon boat and went across there and got them,” Kondora said.
Northeast Iowa was pummeled. Decorah, Iowa, seemed to get the worst in terms of damage but the Lansing area also had some emergencies.
