Concorida U was third, while UW-RF came in 22nd

A recent study found the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse to be the ninth safest school in the nation.

That according to Rent College Pads, which analyzed over 500 four-year public and private colleges and universities with over 5,000 students.

The study, which ranked BYU No. 1 right ahead of Concordia University Wisconsin – a private college in Mequon – ranked UW-L the safest of all the state schools, as well. UW-River Falls came in 22nd.

Between 2010-14, UW-L, which has an enrollment of nearly 11,000, had just 12 on-campus crimes.

A big factor in being ranked as high as it is could be due to the police service.

“We’re happy to see that our campus is being recognized for the hard work of our police officers and campus community,” Chris Schuster, UW-L police detective said. “University Police continue to work with our students, faculty and staff to help ensure that we have the safest campus possible.”

Rent College Pads came up with the list using information and statistics from the U.S. Department Education’s Campus and Security database.

Criminal offenses on-campus from the 2010-14 were analyzed and compared with the institution size to determine the school’s Crime Index (Crime Index = Institution size/number of criminal offenses on campus).

Schools with a majority of students enrolled online were not included in the study.
