Dorm residents at UW-L are having to triple up in two-person rooms
Some students staying in lounges
The start of a new class year at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse finds many students living on campus in dorms.
Too many, in some buildings.
“We do have some of our double rooms that are triples, temporarily,” new residence life director Jacque Bollinger, who began in July, said. “We also have some students in lounges temporarily, until we can open up space for them.”
That’s the only solution so far and could be for some time.
“We are waiting to hear from the legislature on our proposed residence hall,” Bollinger said. “I would say it’s not looking real promising, so we’re looking at renovation plans for our current residence halls.”
Two old dorms were demolished in 2009, and Eagle Hall opened two years later. The university hopes to build a 300-bed dorm soon near Eagle and Coate Halls, close to La Crosse St.
