Central teacher changing approach

It’s hard to believe but there are now high school students who have no recollection of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Many of Kevin Colburn’s students at Central High School weren’t even born, so his teaching approach regarding that day has changed over the years.

“It was less important 10 years ago to talk about it because everybody experienced it,” Colburn, who teaches social studies, said. “These kids were barely born and next year’s kids weren’t born.

“It’s important for them to understand what that event was because it did have such a huge affect on our country.”

Colburn says he largely reverts back to his own experiences in telling students about the significance of that time.
